January 2008
We spent a few weeks in Gig Harbor and back on board roughing out our itinerary for the upcoming year. We are surrounded by books on travel, books on food, books on navigating the Mediterranean and weather guidelines. Putting it all together is the challenge...
This should prove to be an interesting year of different countries and cultures. Air fares are at historic lows for inter-European flights so while we wait for spring weather to arrive we plan to fly to Rome next week and Budapest in February.
When we leave our winter berth in Barcelona in March we will head north-east along the Spanish coast to France, then east towards Monaco. From Monaco we will head south to Corsica, then east to the Italian Islands of Capri, Elba, Montecristo etc. We may add the west coast of Corsica, then south again to Sardinia and east to the south-west coast of Italy from where we will visit Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. Then south again to Sicily and east around the foot of Italy heading for the Greek Islands where we expect to spend most of the summer. We have not yet decided where to spend next winter, but Turkey is a strong favorite at this point.
Here is a rough approximation of our planned route. We may circumnavigate Corsica or Sardinia (not shown) and we have not yet planned our route through the Greek islands.
