Block Island, R.I.

Alan's Log:
Joan's Log:When
we
left Newport after the boat show we picked up David Nermoe and his wife Barbara and sailed with them down to their summer home on Block Island for a couple of
days. The picture above is of The Great Salt Pond, where we anchored Moonstruck while we explored Block Island. D&B's home is in the middle of the picture above. Just above one of the smaller ponds. It was built over 100 years ago and is typical of the homes on the Island, containing a number of guest apartments that are rented out in the summer. The summer season was over however and the last straggling tourists were heading for the ferry as we arrived.
We had a lovely dinner with David & Barbara and then spent a day cycling around the island with David. It may look flat in the picture but we found a few challenging hills.
Below are pictures of D&B's summer house and the views from it, including a view of the Great Salt Pond and Moonstruck at anchor, lost amongst the masts.
The lighthouses are amazing in this part of the world, They are truly houses with a light stuck on a tower at one end. This one on Block Island was moved to safety from the edge of the eroding cliffs and now stands a hundred yards or so inland.
After Block Island we bade a regretful farewell to New England and headed South down Long Island Sound towards New York.
Next......We are alone! We set sail for New York and eventually Baltimore. It is our first time to be alone with Moonstruck
