Alan's Log:

We are thrilled to be spending Christmas with Courtney & James at their home in Port Orchard.  Ben is here as is Lauren, who flew in from L.A. a few days ago.

All we needed was a little snow to make it more festive.....

In the new year we will have friends and family visit us in the Caribbean and we plan to sail further down the island chain as far as Antigua or Guadaloupe.  In May 2007 we will set off to cross the Atlantic, destination the Mediterranean.

Thanks for checking out our site.  Have a great Christmas and best wishes for 2007

POST SCRIPT

Gig Harbor, WA

January 14th, 2007

The Moonstruck Teeds have had a bit of a set back; the captain is actually temporarily crewless!   Only one day after our arrival in Virgin Gorda, BVI, last November the Captain and crew were celebrating at the infamous William Thornton (Willy T) in the Bight at Norman Island.  We were having a great time, listening to reggae, hanging out with the locals and the cruisers, dancing and, oh yeah, a fair amount of rum was consumed.  I was dancing with Martin (who BTW is a great dancer) when all of a sudden I felt my left knee go snap, crackle, pop!  Having torn the ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) in the same knee 6 years ago I had an ominous sense of deja vu, I said to myself “That DID NOT just happen!” so I continued on for a minute and it happened again, only this time it HURT!  I knew the ACL was blown, and believe me the BVI’s is not the greatest place to end up with an injury like that.  I pretty much made up my mind that I’d just have to fly home and get it fixed as soon as possible.  But after a week of limping and hobbling and feeling sorry for myself, I decided what is the harm in seeing a doctor in Tortola?  After a little searching I found a doctor, who sent me to see an orthopedic doctor.
Yey!  Unfortunately, I had a few uncertainties about him as soon as we met, but figured he had to know more than me.  They had no MRI machine, but sent me to get x-rays, and then he examined it and said it was fine, no tear, just sprained!

Put de lime in de coconut and drink de bowl up, you’re such a silly woman!

..and prescribed anti-inflammatories which helped.  The swelling went down and the pain subsided.  So I figured maybe it was just a sprain and cancelled my appointment with my doctor in Washington and rescheduled to see him during Christmas.  Long story short… the ACL WAS blown, I had surgery on Jan. 5th. and am recovering nicely.  Alan has returned to Moonstruck alone, although not for long.  Our good friend Brad will be joining him this week for 2 weeks and then I’ll be there Feb. 7th!!!

I can’t wait, it’s really cold here!
