Alan's Log:
Joan's Log:In the afternoon ATA visited Saba Rock, a small resort and
restaurant on its own island, where they got to see these green moray eels and an anegada lobster.
March 10th, 2007
Next it was off to Anegada, a 12 mile sail in the open ocean with a beam wind. Andrew was a big help trimming the sails while Tiffany and Allyssa adjusted to the large rolling swell that is found outside the protection of the islands. At Anegada we took a taxi to Loblolly Beach where we snorkeled and hung out on the beach. This was a great snorkel site. We saw several adult turtles plus a 2" long baby turtle trying to swim out to sea. Nearby a 4' Barracuda lurked, making it unlikely he would succeed. We also saw stingrays and the usual assortment of colorful tropical fish.
After a lobster dinner and a night at anchor, Andrew and Allyssa did some exploring of Anegada by scooter.
Then we sailed the 24 miles to Jost Van Dyke. Tiffany had recovered her sea legs by now and it was a great sail.
At Jost, we picked up a mooring ball in Long Bay and went for a snorkel. The next morning we took a short hike to the bubbly pool. While we were there Allyssa was lucky enough to find her second & third "silver" pirate coins hidden under a cache of rocks. The swell had completely died away so the bubbly pool was the calmest we had ever seen it with only an occasional wave crashing through.
We
took a refreshing dip then headed back to the boat for some more snorkeling in
Long Bay, then it was off to Sandy Cay for some time on this beautiful small
sand island with palm trees. ATA took a nature trail around the island and
Allyssa found two coconuts. Then we anchored in Great Harbor and
enjoyed the anchoring antics of a large French yacht, then had dinner at Foxy's
Tamarind Bar and Grill and spent the night at anchor.
After
a rewatering stop in Sopers Hole we were back to White Bay on Jost Van Dyke
where A&T got to experience the pleasures of the Soggy Dollar Beach Bar and
the most crowded beach scene we will see.
Anchoring
is always problematic here and it is no place to spend the night, so then it was
off to Cane Garden Bay on Tortola for dinner and a night on a mooring
ball. Andrew treated us to a great meal at Myetts on the beach.
ATA spent the next morning on the beach before we headed back to Sopers
Hole to pick up our laundry, all nicely washed, dried and folded! then we
headed into the Francis Drake Channel, our destination Norman Island (the Famed
Treasure Island of the eponymous book). A night at the bight in Norman
Island allowed A&T to go dancing at Willy T's while the older and younger
crew all took an early evening.
