Alan's Log:
Joan's Log:

March 7th, 2007

We are still in the BVI.  Andrew, Tiffany & Allyssa (ATA) arrived on Monday this week and we have had an active week of hiking, sailing and snorkeling.   First we sailed from Trellis Bay on Beef Island, where we picked them up at the airport, to Virgin Gorda where we spent the first day getting acclimatized and teaching Allyssa to snorkel at Levereck Bay.  This is a pretty little resort with a tiny beach and freshwater pool.  We tied up to a mooring for the night and dinghied-in to the resort.  Tuesday we stretched our legs with a hike to the top of Gorda Peak, the highest point on the island of Virgin Gorda.  It is a short, steep hike to a viewing platform that overlooks the entire island.  There's not much to see on the way up, other than the three snakes that lay in our path!  But from the top the view is fabulous.  Since ATA arrived at night they had not seen the islands from the air and this is the next best thing.

Allyssa took a well deserved rest at the top and had more fun going down than up!  We only saw one snake on the way
down.

Then we had lunch at Grandma's Kitchen featuring stewed chicken and roasted pork and king fish with fried plantains, all good!  Then a stop at the top of the Baths to see the beautiful houses built amongst the boulders and for a quick dip in the restaurant pool.

Wednesday was really windy so we kept the boat in North Gorda Sound and took the dinghy over to the North side of Prickly Pear Island and spent the morning on a beach that we had completely to ourselves.
